An Amazing Life......
General
Ferrie, head of French military communications, pins the insignia of a Chevalier
de la Légion d’Honneur on Armstrong in 1919.

Armstrong atop RCA’s 115-foot north tower, which stood on the roof of the 21-story Aeolian Hall in midtown Manhattan. Armstrong sent copies of the photos to David Sarnoff and his secretary, Marion MacInnis. Sarnoff was furious and banned him from the building; MacInnis later married him.

Radio Matters: Equality For AM!
Basing
‘equality’ on PEP input power is the same as basing highway speed limits on
the number of gallons input to the carburetor per hour, rather than actual MPH.
AM rigs require more power to achieve the same loudness at the receiver.
The extra power required pays dividends because the carrier suppresses
noise and the extra audio bandwidth enhances intelligibility to an AM receiver.
A growing number of Amateurs find the qualitative improvement in the
radio experience more that worth the extra few dollars per month in electricity
bills.
The
input power required to achieve the same end-result is something between the Ham
and his utility company. This
graphic published in ‘Electric Radio’ raised some eyebrows but shows the
‘real-world’ relationship between AM and SSB loudness to an AM receiver:
